Things To Do In Myrtle Beach SC, as a long-time Myrtle Beach resident, I’ve reaped the benefits of not only growing up on the beach but also raising my children here. We’re fortunate that most summers include a sort of “staycation” for us and an opportunity to visit this beautiful destination as a visitor. 

And over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to note the things that each family member seems to enjoy. 

Because the Myrtle Beach area is blessed with mostly mild weather and a lot of sunshine, our three children spend the majority of their free time outdoors and on the go, and many of our favorite family activities are outside-though a few allow us to get inside and cool off at grand strand! Here are a few of our favorite activities to do with your family:

1. Go to State Parks

Myrtle Beach has two South Carolina state parks: Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park. While our family enjoys camping, and both of these parks have excellent camping facilities, they are also excellent day-trip destinations at grand strand. When compared to other area attractions, daily admission is reasonable, and your group will be able to explore everything from hiking trails and nature centers to fishing piers and even a historic seaside castle. 2. Attend a Pelican Game in Myrtle Beach

Even if your children are too young to understand a baseball game, there is a lot of fun to be had on game nights at the TicketReturn.com Field. There is a playground, a Fun Zone, fireworks displays, mascot visits, and the opportunity to run the bases after the game, among many other special events and activities held throughout the year.

3. Play a Game of Mini-Golf

While our 7-year-old, 4-year-old, and 1-year-old don’t always get through a very strict game of miniature golf, we always have a lot of fun playing together. The Myrtle Beach area’s many mini golf courses, which range from towering dinosaurs to skeleton-clad pirate ships, are a safe bet for family fun and are usually easy to spot from the road just like the family kingdom amusement park!

Topgolf Myrtle Beach is also a fun alternative way to ‘hit the links’ with kids while enjoying a little family competition for families with slightly older children or those more intent on working on their swing. And being able to prepare a delicious lunch or dinner while participating in a family sports activity is the icing on the cake at surfside beach!

4. Grand Prix de Broadway

This fantastic family attraction is located near the popular Broadway at the Beach and provides a wealth of fun for people of all ages. It has seven Go-Kart tracks, including a Family Track, Kids Track, and Jr. Racer Track, as well as rides such as the Kiddie Speedway, carousel, bumper boats, and other attractions.

Your group can cool off indoors at their new arcade, which has 20,000 square feet of arcade games and over 90 arcade games, before heading back outside to enjoy two 18-hole mini golf courses or the rock climbing wall an alligator adventure. A day at the Broadway Grand Prix is full of excitement for both parents and children, and the memories will last a lifetime in this alligator adventure.

5. Brookgreen Gardens is number five.

It’s difficult to say when is the best time of year to visit Brookgreen Gardens, so we’ll just say anytime! Brookgreen Gardens, located in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, is a nearly 10,000-acre sculpture garden and wildlife preserve with the world’s largest outdoor collection of American figurative sculpture.

Aside from the breathtaking works of art found throughout the gardens, Brookgreen also has a fantastic Lowcountry Zoo and Lowcountry Trail, Carolina Opry, Butterfly House, and ‘Children’s Garden Room,’ among many other scheduled events and activities for families and children throughout the year. 6. Get Some Ice Cream

When we decide to go out for ice cream, I’m not sure who is more excited-the kids or me. The Myrtle Beach area has a number of excellent ice cream shops, which makes sense given that the beach and ice cream go hand in hand. Some of our favorites have been around for a long time, such as Peaches Corner in downtown Myrtle Beac.

Kirk’s Ice Cream Parlor in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, and Original Painter’s Home Ice Cream in North Myrtle Beach (which is said to be Vanna White’s favorite). Melt, located on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, is a newer favorite of ours, with flavors like Honey Lavender, Cookie Monster, and Irish Car Bomb. At the end of the day, we’re just glad to share a sweet treat at ripleys aquarium.

7. Barefoot Landing 

In North Myrtle Beach, Barefoot Landing is a one-stop shop for fun family activities. Throughout the year, this waterfront shopping, dining, and entertainment destination hosts a variety of kid-friendly events such as free concerts, fireworks displays, and more. Those who enjoy shopping will be pleased to know that Barefoot Landing is home to a number of national retail stores as well as charming local boutiques.

My children enjoy the large playground in the Dockside Village area, which has a pleasant breeze due to its location between the Intracoastal Waterway and Barefoot Lake. I also like how close the playground is to two of our favorite family-friendly restaurants, Lucy Buffett’s LuLu’s and Crooked Hammock Brewery. Both of these restaurants cater to families in the best possible ways, with outdoor play areas for children and cool atmospheres for adults here at North Carolina.

8. Take in a show and dinner.

When visiting Myrtle Beach with children, it’s almost a must to go to Medieval Times or Dolly Parton’s Pirates Voyage, or both! Despite having seen both shows several times, our boys still want to spend their birthdays at one or the other, and we believe it’s something families will enjoy time and time again. The buildup to the show is a lot of fun, and we try to dress up a little in costume. Our kids are always enthralled by the performances as dinner is served, and we can eat an entire meal! The fact that the food is always delicious is just an added bonus in pawleys island.

9. SkyWheel at Myrtle Beach

The downtown Myrtle Beach shoreline would be unrecognizable without the iconic SkyWheel! The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel is a 187-foot observation tower that offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Myrtle Beach coast, and downtown Myrtle Beach at Avenue North. The 42 air-conditioned, glass-enclosed gondolas seat between 2 and 6 people, so most families can enjoy this attraction together. It moves slowly enough not to frighten small children and provides a memorable view. We also like how the SkyWheel is located right on the well-known Myrtle Beach boardwalk, which is well worth a stroll at long island!

10. Ripley’s Aquarium At The Beach On Broadway

Ripley’s Aquarium is frequently included on lists of things to do in Myrtle Beach when it rains, but I’d argue it’s worth a visit even on the sunniest of days! This multilevel aquarium provides an engaging presentation of marine life (thousands of species!) that will appeal to both children and adults. The Penguin Playhouse, their newest addition, is currently my crew’s favorite exhibit, but I think it’s difficult to choose.

The diving shows at Rainbow Rock and the sharks swimming wild water overhead in the moving tunnel usually leave all visitors speechless. Special experiences such as glass bottom boat rides, stingray encounters, and photos with mermaids can make your family’s visit even more memorable. 11. Have Fun at Our Trampoline Parks

As a mother of young children, I understand how wonderful it is to take your children somewhere where they can run, jump, and play hard. Fortunately for us, the Myrtle Beach area is home to two fantastic trampoline parks that allow kids to get some exercise while having a great time. Jumpin’ Rockin’ Myrtle Beach Trampoline Park is close to downtown

Myrtle Beach and is a great option for when your family needs a break from the sun or just wants to have some fun. My boys enjoy the ninja obstacles the most. Big Air Trampoline Park is a little further south in Myrtle Beach and is just as much fun, with plenty of arcade games to keep you entertained at dunes village resort ocean boulevard.

12. Visit the beach!

Spending a day at the beach with our family is probably our favorite family activity of all time, and we’re fortunate that we get to do it frequently! Going to the beach is usually free and will keep family members of all ages entertained. While we enjoy packing a picnic lunch and spending the afternoon in the sand and surf, there is something to be said for spending early mornings on the beach with a picnic breakfast. Spending time on the beach as a family is a great way to create memories that will last a lifetime, from hunting for shark’s teeth to building sand castles at breakers resort.
